Because
I'm sick, can't sleep, everything feels crappy and things seem to fall apart. So this is something I came across to help keep me sane and keep my spirits up......at least for the moment.

Rolling The Reels
And since I've been stuck watching and previweing films, I thought why not just roll out a few films that I feel would be interesting to catch, even if at most here in Singapore, it'd most probably be on DVD. As usual, click on the posters for a link to the trailers of the respective movies. I've also included a link to the official websites where possible.
So here goes:
A story of a talented but wayward young rugby player who is given a second chance at life and the sport that he loves. The scenes depicted in the trailer was either very well picked or the movie does seem that good. Besides, this is the first time I think that anyone has chosen rugby as the focal sport of a movie and that alone I think is worth enough of a gander, amidst the underlying premise of the plot.
Forever Strong - Official Website
A comedy centered around an Asian-American who dreams of the high life in the sporting industry. When thrust into running his parents' table tennis training center, he soon realizes the potential of grasping his dreams, amidst all the gaffs and kerfuffles of course. Good watch for laughs.
Ping Pong Playa - Official Website
If you're a fan of Micheal Moore movies then you'll enjoy this parody of Moore himself and the movies he has churned out so far. From the creator of Airplane!, The Naked Gun and Scary Movie 3 & 4, its political satire at its most fun.
An American Carol - Official Website
I've been waiting for a good Sean Penn movie for some time now and I think the wait has been worth it. MILK is a story about a man, Harvey Milk fighting for his rights to live, work and exist in modern times as a gay. It is an uplifting story of how one man's life changed history and his courage changed lives.

MUST WATCH MOVIES
This is quite simply, anime come to life. I don't know much about the director seeing as I don't follow Japanese movies as closely as I want to but if Quentin Tarantino says Takashi Miike is the next big thing in directing, I would be more than inclined to pay attention. And after having a gander at the trailer I can safely say that this new take on a spaghetti western is most definitely a welcome change. A cowboy tale with Japanese actors..... trust me its going to cool....
Sukiyaki Western Django - Official Website
A compulsive gambler is brought face to face with a situation where he only has an hour to live. Faced with the perplexing reality before him, he is forced to reasses his life and the values and priorities that once ruled them. Seems like just the kind of self-realization movie I'd love watching. Simple in its execution yet consists of enough depth in the message that it wishes to convey.
No release date was given though and no official website that I could find only means that I would need to wait a long while longer before I'd have a chance to cast my eyes of this film.
Just like Man In The Chair last year, this is THE movie that I'd love to catch this year in whatever form possible. It tells the story of a young aspiring painter who chances upon his idol and seeks to learn from him. Embittered from his experiences, the master and student each gain from each other's insights into what life has to offer. The reality of existence and beauty existing within it all. A movie of epiphanic qualities and undoubtedly my prime target for this year.

Chapter 27
It's been awhile and though it wouldn't be best to announce my return from a hiatus from life here by doing a movie review but hey, that's where the neurons in my brain are twinkling at for some reason so that's what I'm going with.
Chapter 27 was an independent movie that I had planned on catching, be it in the cinema or on DVD. Slightly unfortunate that it had to be the latter. The premise, which I don't think is anything close to being what contemporary, mainstream film-makers dish out every so often, was what got me interested in how the story would play itself out.
The plot circles around the three day period leading up to the assassination of legend and musician John Lennon. Focusing around the experiences of Mark David Chapman, Lennon's murderer, it gave an insight into an unstable mind that yearned for help in the gloom that he sensed was yet to come. Convinced that his life not only mirrored but was that of the character Holden Caulfield in J.D. Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye, Chapman sought to end Salinger's story as an extension of his own life tale.
I particularly liked the narrative setting of the film. It makes it feel as though you are there within Chapman's thought processes as he laments between accepting reality or the comfort of delusion in a made up link between his life and that of the character Caulfield. The cinematography and storyboarding is commendable though sometimes one does feel as though a certain crucial aspect of what needed to be shown was left out.
Jared Leto's weight gain to portray Chapman in as authentic a way as possible, inclusive of his more than apt portrayal of the disturbed man is worthy of more than just a simple mention. Now if only the script and screenplay writing was able to match up with Leto's passionate embrace of the role then Jared could very well be up for an award.
Lindsay Lohan's bit part yet seemingly crucial role in the movie was anything but that. In fact it was one of those characters that would not even impact the storyline had she been omitted from it completely. I guess she was there just to be another pretty face I guess. Her acting was good enough though which is a far cry from being good.
Overall, the movie was not entertaining in the high paced action or laugh out loud sort nor was it disappointing in any sense of the word. Though if you are someone who enjoys picking out the puzzles that are the minds of other people then this would be one hell of a joyride. Or if you are a pop culture history buf then this would definitely be something to check out.
Otherwise I'd advise you using a ten foot pole to keep this movie away.

Allah Made Me Funny
Found a trailer of a to-be-released independent movie that I think would be fitting for this Ramadan period. And though I think that there's very little chance of it being screened here in Singapore, I'm going to hope anyway. I'll definitely get the DVD though. So here you go...... Click on the poster for a link to the video. Click here for the Official website of Allah Made Me Funny.

Rumble In The Tummy
Just want to give a shout out to all the Muslims in the world who will (or will not) be fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
May you find yourself in the trying days ahead. Your true cause and purpose in life for the betterment of yourself, your family, friends and the denizens of this world.
May peace reign where it once did not and may light now shine where darkness once ruled.
